A first experience with "super sculpey," a product I had heard of but had not come across until just after college. It lended itself very well to the amount of detail that I wanted for this project. The capabilities of the product were quite different than the gritty, water-based clay I was used to.
Being my first sculptural project since I graduated, I gave myself the flexibility to focus on an existing character, a luxury I tried to steer away from throughout school. However, I thought it was important at this point to attempt a character that was highly recognizable, consequently the project could easily pass or fail in the eyes of viewers. It served as a better test of my abilities as well (I couldn't just make it up) not to mention it was a lot of fun to research and create. The wire armature underneath was originally inteneded as part of one of my final projects for college, I had constructed the armature, but decided to scrap that figure for something else. After getting my first box of super sculpey and contemplating what to make with it, I came across the armature and that became the skeleton for Indiana Jones.
