Joe is a portrait commissioned by a friend and neighbor of my family. She had requested a bust of her late husband after seeing my work on "VOF". It became my second attempt at a portrait bust based on a once living person.

From a design standpoint Joe's face was filled with character, made up by a network of interwoven lines and cracks and topped with thick wavey hair. While such detail can pose a challenge, they also give the opportunity to delve deep into the intricate structure that not only make up a face but culminate to express the life and personality that is a testament to an individual's experience.
